Day 1: Cairns

Arrive in Cairns and pick up your car before checking into your hotel. Spend the afternoon shopping, or find a bar to relax in and meet up with a few locals.

Day 2: Cairns - Trinity Beach

Distance: 70 miles
Spend the day driving from Cairns to Kuranda in the rainforest for a taste of the tropics, before heading back to the coast and enjoying the remains of the day kicking sand along the beach when you go for a sunset stroll.

Day 3: Trinity Beach

Do as little as possible today. See the nearby sights if you absolutely must, but the biggest attraction in Trinity Beach is, well, Trinity Beach. Lie back and soak up the sun, or try your hand surfing if the swell is big enough. Either way today is a day for enjoying the weather.

Day 4: Trinity Beach - Port Douglas

Distance: 40 miles
A short drive takes you to Port Douglas, but on the way, be sure to visit Hartley's Crocodile Adventures, and see the big scaly monsters eating bits of chicken and fish. Keep your hands well back if you want to leave with the same number of fingers as you arrived with!

Day 5: Port Douglas and The Great Barrier Reef

Port Douglas is the real gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, and the best way to see it is on a cruise. The company Quicksilver will take you on a cruise out to the reef where you can snorkel for a few hours and then eat some lunch before heading back to land.

Day 6: Port Douglas - Daintree National Park

Distance: 20 miles
The unspoilt (well nearly) rainforest of the Daintree National Park is a super contrast from the coast, and makes for a pleasant distraction for a full day trekking. Spend the night in the luxurious jungle hotel and kick back with a glass or two of wine before going to sleep with the sound of the jungle ringing in your ears.

Day 7: Daintree National Park - Cairns

Distance: 70 miles
Drive back from the rainforest to Cairns and return your car to the airport before boarding your plane onward - or hang around for a few more days and soak up the atmosphere.
